Where do I find the podcasts (the content of the course)?

You can link to the Podcasts from Content located upper left, scarlet navigation bar. Click the Certificate Home link. As you scroll down the page you'll see the course Learning Modules listed. Podcasts are individually listed as Part 1, Part 2, etc. Click the desired link.

Where do I find quizzes?

Quizzes is located in the upper, scarlet navigation bar.

Where do I find my grades?

Grades is located in the upper, scarlet navigation bar.

You can also view your grades from the Welcome Box under My Settings and the link View my progress. When you click the link a new window titled User Progress opens.

Select the tool you'd like to view, in this case, Grades, then click the Apply button.

Where can I find the Course Syllabus?

While there is no page labeled "Course Syllabus," information about the course is found on Course Home (upper, left, scarlet navigation bar) in the Sports Turf Management Certificate box (large box, right). It is essentially the course syllabus.

When is the certificate offered?

Ohio State Sports Turf Management is offered at all times during the academic year. The only requirement is that each certificate be completed within a 10 week period.

What if I don't understand the information I've heard and seen in the podcasts?

You may listen and study the podcasts as many times as needed. Additionally, there are topic specific glossary links provided for each section to help you learn any unfamiliar terms associated with new material. You will need to study the information presented in the podcasts to do well on the quizzes.

What grade do I have to get to pass?

An overall grade average of 70 percent or greater is required for successful completion of the course.

What does the notation of "Distinction" on a certificate mean?

The student has achieved an average equal or greater than 94 percent and passed with Distinction, which has been noted on the certificate.

Is this an introductory course?

The OSU Sports Turf Management Certificate Course was developed to give sports field industry personnel a chance to start or continue their education in sports turf management.

Is there a syllabus for this course?

There is no page labeled "syllabus," but on Course Home (upper, left, scarlet navigation bar) the Sports Turf Management Certificate box (large box, right) is essentially the course syllabus.

How is the course organized?

For Certificate 1, the certificate is organized into 5 modules. The modules of the certificate are I) Soils, II) Sands, III) Irrigation, IV) Drainage, and V) Field Renovation.

For Certificate 2, the certificate is organized into 3 modules. The modules of the certificate are I) Turfgrasses for Athletic Fields, II) Principles of Turfgrass Establishment, and III) Turfgrass Establishment Methods.

For Certificate 3, the certificate is organized into 3 modules. The modules of the certificate are I) Field Presentation: Logos & Lines, II) Field Presentation: Orientation & Mowing, and III) Turf Nutrition.

For Certificate 4, the certificate is organized into 4 modules. The modules of the certificate are I) Integrated Pest Management (IPM), II) Sports Turf Weeds, III) Sports Turf Pests, and IV) Sports Turf Diseases.

For Certificate 5, the certificate is organized into 4 modules. The modules of the certificate are I) Synthetic Turf History, II) Synthetic Turf Carpet Characteristics, III) Synthetic Turf Construction, and IV) Synthetic Turf Maintenance.

How is the course graded?

The course grade is based on the an overall quiz and assignment average of 70 percent or greater. If the student achieves an average equal or greater than 94 percent, the student will pass with distinction, which will be noted on the certificate.

Upon completion of each module, if a passing grade is not achieved or there is a desire to achieve a grade of "distinction", the opportunity exists to further view and study topics under "Extra Credit". A quiz for each topic is provided (a maximum of 3 bonus points for each topic).

How do I get help with course content?

You will be responsible for initiating contact and for being persistent when you need additional help. Send e-mail to the instructor. You can also telephone the instructor. If on the Columbus campus, see the instructor. Make an appointment for one-to-one help with the course.

How can I contact the Help Desk?

You can contact the Help Desk by telephone (614-688-HELP).

If it is necessary to contact the Help Desk, be sure to identify yourself as a Special Course student. They may not be able to assist you and might need to forward your problem to specific personnel.

How are the points divided?

For Certificate 1, there is 1 required Course Information quiz. This quiz is not worth any points, but must be completed with at least a 70% passing grade before you can take any other course quizzes.

There are 5 compulsory quizzes, worth 10 points each and 5 assignments worth 10 points each for a certificate total of 100 points. There are also 5 extra credit quizzes, worth 3 points each.

For Certificate 2, there is 1 required Course Information quiz. This quiz is not worth any points, but must be completed with at least a 70% passing grade before you can take any other course quizzes.

There are 3 compulsory quizzes, worth 20 points each and 3 assignments worth a total of 40 points for a certificate total of 100 points. There are also 3 extra credit quizzes, worth 3 points each.

For Certificate 3, there is 1 required Course Information quiz. This quiz is not worth any points, but must be completed with at least a 70% passing grade before you can take any other course quizzes.

There are 3 compulsory quizzes, worth 20 points each and 3 assignments worth a total of 40 points for a certificate total of 100 points. There are also 2 extra credit quizzes and 1 extra credit assignment, worth 3 points each.

For Certificate 4, there is 1 required Course Information quiz. This quiz is not worth any points, but must be completed with at least a 70% passing grade before you can take any other course quizzes.

There are 4 compulsory quizzes, worth 15 points each and 4 assignments worth a total of 40 points for a certificate total of 100 points. There are also 4 extra credit quizzes worth 3 points each.

For Certificate 5, there is 1 required Course Information quiz. This quiz is not worth any points, but must be completed with at least a 70% passing grade before you can take any other course quizzes.

There are 4 compulsory quizzes, worth 15 points each and 4 assignments worth a total of 40 points for a certificate total of 100 points. There are also 4 extra credit quizzes worth 3 points each.

Do I have a schedule to follow to complete my course work?

No. Each student may work at their own pace but the certificate must be completed within 10 weeks.

Additionally, although the modules are provided in a logical order, the student can complete the modules in the order they prefer.

Can I use an email account other than the one I used at registration?

No. All course related correspondence will go through your OSU guest account that is forwarded to the email account you used to register for this course.

YOU CANNOT USE AN EMAIL ACCOUNT OTHER THAN THE ONE YOU SUBMITTED FOR REGISTRATION.

Can I earn extra credit if I'm unhappy with my grade?

Yes. The opportunity exists to further view and study topics under the "Extra Credit Section." A quiz for each topic is provided (a maximum of 3 bonus points for each topic).

Extra credit can be earned to achieve either a passing grade or to reach the level of "Distinction."

In Certificate 3 there is one assignment for which extra credit can be earned.

Can I begin the course at any time?

Yes. Sports Turf Management certificates can be started at any time. The only requirement is that it be completed within a 10 week period.

Are there any course activities that would require me to be on campus?

No. The course is completely online. You won't have to be on campus at all.

Are there any books required for this course?

No. All of the information you need will be online and available through the podcasts or the glossary links.
